Officer 6620
Marching with precision
Prominent in his military stance
Swearing the oath to serve & protect
With glorious pomp & circumstance
Known only as a number
A rookie constable with a clean slate
A small Canadian flag
As a shield for his unknown fate
For each officer is issued a protector
To always stay by his side
To assist in carrying other’s burdens
That occurs with each shift he rides
As the officer progresses through his career
The pain & sorrow can lead to despair
If it weren’t for his guardian angel
Life would be more than one human could bear
Seen only as an ornamental piece on the shoulder
In the form of a number on an epaulette
For the world of ‘community policing’
Carries visions too soon to forget
For when the officer is faced with the decision
To take another’s life to save his own
An additional angel is assigned
Just know you were not alone
Trust that your actions were fair
Be thankful for the gift of life
A reminder of what is truly important
Your family, your soul mate . . . your wife
The ability to rationalize why
The criminal executes such a deplorable act
Is not for you to determine
But rather to gather evidence & report the facts
For the rationalization cannot be fathomed
By the officer here on earth
Leave the final judgment to God
Ensuring self preservation & worth
To Officer 6620 who wears the police uniform
With integrity, professionalism & pride
We thank you for your sacrifice & commitment
For the inconceivable service you, as Police, provide
O LORD, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever Psalm 12:7
