Badge Of Life Canada

Our History
Our History

Our History:

Since our inception in 2010, Badge of Life Canada has been staffed by volunteers who “walk the talk”and has been solely self-funded on a “pay it forward” approach. Badge of Life Canada supports active/retired and sworn/civilian police and corrections personnel who have been involved with the organization by offering a safe, confidential place where members in crisis can turn for immediate information that can assist those members who are suffering an operational stress injury, including post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety and addictions, with access to counselling, including suicide prevention counselling, information and group support programs.

Badge of Life Canada Founder, Peter Platt, is recognized for laying the ‘brick and mortar’ for the organization that has become the foundation of OUR legitimacy and integrity within police and correctional services across Canada. For additional information regarding our Founder, please check out Peter Platt’s bio.

Our Mission and Four Pillars:

  1. Providing a national online resource hub
  2. Fostering the development of peer-led support resources
  3. Develop a national training and resource network
  4. Advancing the public’s understanding of operational stress injuries, including post-traumatic stress and suicide prevention

Our Goal:

Our goal is to raise the profile of Badge of Life Canada as the predominant organizational voice regarding operational stress injuries, including post-traumatic stress, and suicide prevention awareness on behalf of all active/retired police (sworn/civilian) and correctional personnel across Canada who still suffer in silence. We are currently involved in research through various university collaborations as one example of how we will achieve our Mission and goals.
