Courtney Toner is a registered Social Worker with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto. Courtney spent several years immersed in First Responder Culture working within Provincial Institutions (Ministry of Community Safety & Correctional Services/ Solicitor General) as a Social Worker, Crisis Negotiator and Co-Lead for the Eastern Region Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team. Over the last three years Courtney has worked directly with First Responders (Law Enforcement, Paramedics, Fire Fighters, Correctional Officers and Veterans) and their families in a private setting over the last three years.
Courtney has witnessed firsthand the hardships that trauma and stress can cause in the lives of first responders and those they care about. Utilizing a trauma-informed approach Courtney attempts to normalize the realities and experiences to help aid in recovery. Her practice applies a combination of approaches to recovery such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution focused therapies and mindfulness.
