Dr. Kirsten Voss has a diverse clinical practice and helps clients with a wide range of trauma histories. Her clients include members of the military, police officers, and front line workers. In addition to her background in psychology, she is trained in criminology and addiction treatment.
Dr. Kirsten Voss obtained Bachelors degrees in Psychology and Criminology from the University of Ottawa. She earned her Masters and Doctorate in Psychology at Concordia University. She also completed a certificate in Addiction Prevention and Intervention at the Université de Montréal. Her employment history is diverse. She has worked in hospitals, community health centres, a penitentiary, a correctional halfway house, and a women’s shelter. Dr. Voss also provides consultation services to residential treatment centres for men and women dealing with addictions issues.
Prior to establishing herself in Montreal, Dr. Voss worked in private practice at Gilmour Psychological Services in Ottawa. She also worked as a consultant to Newgate 180, a residential addiction treatment centre. She is currently registered with the Ordre des psychologues du Québec, the College of Psychologists of Ontario, and is a member of the Canadian Psychological Association. She continues to expand her professional development by attending psychological conferences and workshops regularly.
Dr. Voss’ approach is primarily cognitive behavioral. She has additional training in schema-focused, interpersonal, emotion-focused, object relations and psychodynamic approaches. She believes in matching her approach to clients’ needs within a warm and supportive therapeutic relationship. Clients may choose to focus on current problems and/or to explore how past experiences have shaped present behavior.
