Dr. Williams treats a wide variety of difficulties in adults using leading-edge, research-based CBT techniques. She has worked with public safety personnel including first responders for over 20 years. She is a leading expert in CBT for depression and anxiety and has trained clinicians across Canada in CBT. Susan is a certified member of the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (CACBT). She works closely with clients setting clear goals for therapy and quickly provides effective tools for her clients to use.

Susan attended training courses led by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and his colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre (UMass) for 5 years and is currently Certified by UMass to teach the world-famous Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course. She was also the research coordinator in the 1990’s for Dr. Zindel Segal, Dr. Mark Williams and Dr. John Teasdale who developed the world-famous mindfulness curriculum for depression (MBCT). Susan maintains a daily meditation practice and is continuing her lifelong journey to lead a more mindful and compassionate life.

CBT, mindfulness and self-compassion are evidence-based approaches to assist individuals with a variety of problems including stress, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Susan incorporates these approaches into her work with clients and helps clients tap into their inner resilience and experience a greater sense of peace and well-being in their lives.

Susan is also a Developmental Psychologist. Her knowledge of child development guides her work with children, teens, parents and families.

Clinical Psychologists

Clinical Psychologists are required to complete a related Masters and Ph.D. program to practice in the province of Ontario that must be research-based and subsequently have a thesis component. They are governed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO).

Registered Psychotherapists (RPs) are registered by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and, like Registered Social Workers and Clinical Psychologists, are permitted to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy.
