Julie Clarke works as Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO #001463) and Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) Practitioner in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She is also a member of the Crisis Stabilization working group with SE™ International.
Julie’s current role has her supporting First Responders including Municipal/Provincial police members, 911 Dispatch, Paramedic and healthcare providers including Physicians, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals as well as Canadian Military (Rehab Program) in a psychotherapy capacity, namely those who are struggling with operational stress injuries or post-traumatic stress. In her private psychotherapy practice she has provided emotional support for male youth in conflict with the law (secure custody/detention) as well as provided debrief and support services to youth detention centre staff.
She is also Clinical Supervisor to graduate level Psychotherapy interns.
Julie returned to school as a mature student in her 30s with two young children in tow who are now young adults! She has a specialized undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Child and Youth Care. This program has a strong developmental foundation and prepares Julie to work with a diverse population young and old. She also has a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology.
Julie works from a developmental, psychodynamic lens using Somatic Experiencing® as a foundation of the psychotherapeutic work. She is also training Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD.
She has worked at a regional Children’s Hospital in the mental health and eating disorders programs for in-patient/outpatient and emergency department crisis intervention and stabilization.
Julie also has experience volunteering with non-profit organizations such as Victim Services; assisting Fire/Police partners and victims of crime during tragic circumstances providing on-site emotional support via the Provincial Victims Services program; she was also a Restorative Justice Facilitator for the Lanark County Community Justice Program court diversion program.
Julie operates a professional private practice located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In her downtime she enjoys nature hikes/walks with her Australian shepherd and spending time with family and friends. She enjoys regular daily self-care activities that include yoga practice and strength training.
