Create your own Peer Support Team

Background

Take a walk with 2 Canadian Peer Support Gurus who have 60 years combined experience in creating, operating, and managing Peer Support Teams. As Authors of “Walk the Talk – First Responder Peer Support” Retired Staff Sergeants Syd Gravel and Brad McKay will show you, through their own experiences, how to set up a peer support system in your community. This one day course will give participants the knowledge and confidence to move forward with a peer driven product that enhances trust, competence and credibility. The spectrum of Peer Support, as described by the Mental Health Commission of Canada in their “Guidelines for the Practice and Training of Peer Support” acknowledges for Peer Support workers in Canada that there is no cookie cutter system and that there can be a range from informal friendship groups to clinically supervised organizational models. Your instructors have training and experience in all areas within the spectrum. Each participant will receive their own copy of the publication “Walk the Talk” along with a package containing suggested templates for communications, postings, interview questions, and helpful tips to create a proactive system for your community.
