Kitchener, ON – Sara Murphy
In her book The Gifts of Imperfection, Bréné Brown says that “owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do”. It is my privilege as a Psychotherapist to provide space and support as individuals dive into the stories of their lives and do the hard work of healing. Trained in EMDR, I’m grateful to be able to provide an opportunity for individuals to release the emotional, mental, and physical blocks caused by trauma and other difficult life circumstances using this dynamic and evidence-based therapy.
I developed my skills in addressing the unique needs of First Responders and members of the Military while working at the Post Traumatic Stress Recovery Program at Homewood Health Centre. This is experience gave me insight into the challenges of the culture and the ongoing exposure to stress that you experience while working so diligently to keep the civilian population safe.
EMDR provides a unique offering to this population as it not only can aid in the processing of significantly traumatic experiences but it is also effective as an early intervention tool in reducing symptoms of traumatic stress and preventing the exacerbation of symptoms that can come from repeated exposure to high stress situations.
