David Burns is a retired former member (with over thirty years of policing experience) of the Victoria Police Department. David has practiced addiction care since 2002. David earned a Master’s Degree in Health Leadership; His major project focused on comparing abstinence-based and harm-reduction addiction treatment models. David has worked in the addictions field as a Practice Lead, Supervisor & Addictions Counsellor during his twelve-year tenure at the Mental Health Unit, Canadian Forces Health Services Centre (P). He is currently the Clinical Manager at Burns Clinical Life Options in Victoria, BC.
His various qualifications include:
Internationally Certified Addiction Counsellor (ICADC); Canadian Clinical Supervisor – Addiction Counsellor (CCS-AC). Member of the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF); International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (ICRC), which allows for international practice, CSAT qualified by the International Institute for Trauma & Addiction Professionals (IITAP); Member of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine; Member of the International Society of Addiction Medicine; Past President and board member of Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation, (CACCF).
