In conversation with our Executive Director, Laura Kloosterman, Lance Valcour shared the raw and courageous story behind his book—a journey through decades of policing, hidden struggles, personal recovery, and ultimately, hope. His willingness to be vulnerable about addiction, mental health challenges, and the stigma that so often silences those who serve is a powerful reminder that healing begins with truth.
Webinar Reflection: If They Only Knew – A Conversation on Addiction, Mental Health, and Hope
Throughout the webinar, we also explored the work being done at Badge of Life Canada to support Public Safety Personnel across the country. From peer support programs to wellness resources, everything we do is rooted in the belief that no one should suffer in silence—and that post-traumatic growth is possible.
A special note of gratitude to Lance for his generosity: the majority of the profits from If They Only Knew and his speaking engagements are being donated to Badge of Life Canada, Canada Beyond the Blue, and Serenity Renewal for Families. This kind of tangible support goes a long way in helping us continue to provide accessible, trauma-informed care for those who need it most.

We thank everyone who joined us and encourage all Public Safety Personnel, family members, and mental health professionals to keep this important conversation going.
Canadian Public Safety personnel and their families are never on this journey alone. Organizations like Badge of Life Canada are here to be a part of that journey with a pro-active approach to mental wellness. We need to continue the dialogue in order to transform the culture. We are always open to positive comments and suggestions. You can reach us on our website at BadgeofLifeCanada.org.
