David Burns is a retired former member (with over thirty years of policing experience) of the Victoria Police Department and has practiced addiction care since 2002.

Dave is an Associate Member of both the Canadian and International Society of Addiction Medicine Aligned with the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (ICRC) recognizing International Certification and Credentialing.

Dave earned a Master’s Degree in Health Leadership; his major project was based on a comparison of abstinence-based and harm reduction addiction treatment models. As well, he has worked in the addictions field as an Addiction Counsellor, Interventionist, Group Facilitator, and Clinical Lead. Also, he continues to provide addiction care for the federal, provincial and local governments.

Certifications

Clinical Psychologists

Clinical Psychologists are required to complete a related Masters and Ph.D. program to practice in the province of Ontario that must be research-based and subsequently have a thesis component. They are governed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO).

Registered Psychotherapists

Registered Psychotherapists (RPs) are registered by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and, like Registered Social Workers and Clinical Psychologists, are permitted to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy.

Registered Social Workers (RSW) are helping individuals to enhance their well-being. They are governed by the Ontario College of Social Workers.
