Melissa Redekop

Melissa has her Masters in Counselling Psychology and over 11 years working with Child and Youth Mental Health, MCFD. During this time she has worked with children, youth, and families who were affected by many barriers including but not limited to trauma, poverty, addiction, and abuse which resulted in many different types of behavioral and emotional responses. She’s worked closely with those in the community supporting these families including APD, hospital staff, crisis response staff, community physicians, pediatricians, psychologists, and psychiatrists, as well as those in the public school district attempting to support her clients.

One year ago Melissa opened up a private practice through Irene Peterson, Dykstra and Associates in Abbotsford, BC and is registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. She’s passionate about working with those affected by trauma, directly and indirectly and have spoken several times about vicarious trauma, its affects and how to come back from it. Melissa has had the honor of working and seeing amazing stories of recovery for those affected by trauma. Melissa utilizes EMDR (Eye movement desensitization, and reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive behavioral therapy) and expressive modalities including art, and sand tray.
