Michelle Ruiz is a Registered Psychologist offering in-person sessions to adults in Calgary and virtual therapy to adults in Alberta and Ontario. With a professional background in corrections and probation, Michelle understands some of the systems, pressures, cumulative stress, and organizational challenges often experienced by first responders and public safety personnel.
Michelle supports police officers (Edmonton Police members, RCMP members and Emergency Communication Officers), firefighters, Emergency Medical Service Professionals (EMS), correctional officers, military members, veterans, healthcare workers, and their families. She works with concerns such as operational stress injuries, PTSD and trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, relationship challenges, and
difficult life transitions. She also offers supportive check-ins focused on overall wellness, resilience, and maintaining mental health over time.
Her approach is warm, compassionate, down-to-earth, and trauma-informed. She understands that starting therapy can sometimes feel uncomfortable, and her goal is to create a space where clients can feel like themselves—where every version of them is welcome, including humour, swearing, and shared laughter. Therapy is tailored to each client, whether they benefit from structured, goal-focused treatment or a more flexible pace. Together, Michelle and her clients choose an approach that fits their goals and comfort level, drawing from evidence-based therapies including EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, CBT, Brainspotting, and Lifespan Integration. Her work is grounded in helping clients feel understood, supported, and equipped to move forward in a way that feels manageable and sustainable.
