About Me

I am Mario Spiler, a seasoned registered social worker with over 37 years of experience in various clinical settings, dedicated to helping individuals navigate the complexities of their mental well-being. My commitment to understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by first responders has driven my career, making me a trusted source of support in their journey toward healing.

Professional Background

Throughout my extensive career, I’ve had the privilege to collaborate with diverse patient populations and scenarios, which has honed my expertise in dealing with mild to severe personality disorders, mood disorders, PTSD, and trauma. My credentials include being Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Certified and pursuing certifications in Transference Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) and Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT). I’ve recently completed the Mental Health First Aid for Veterans program by the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Specializations

As a registered social worker, I specialize in operational stress injuries such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, moral injuries, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma. My treatment approaches are grounded in evidence-based methodologies, adhering to guidelines set forth by the American Psychological Association and the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies. I offer a diverse range of therapeutic techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mentalization-Based Therapy, among others.

Return-to-Work Expertise

I have extensive experience aiding first responders in their return-to-work processes, having worked for over 15 years as a rehabilitation consultant, medical and psychiatric social worker. My role often involved fostering collaboration between employers, insurance companies, employee assistance programs, and medical practitioners to ensure a seamless transition back to their roles.

Cultural Sensitivity

Recognizing the importance of cultural nuances in therapy, I am fluent in both English and Spanish. This proficiency enables me to offer treatment services in both languages, promoting a more inclusive and effective therapeutic experience.
